Apex Auto Shield is a South African film supplier that sells only to professional fitters, from warehouses in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
We use its smash and grab tint, PPF and coatings because one range covers every window and painted panel on a bakkie. Each job is fitted by our own team, and the film carries Apex’s written warranty.
Smash & Grab Tint
Smash & grab tint is Apex safety film fitted to the inside of your windows. If the glass is hit, it cracks but stays stuck to the film, so it’s much harder to reach through. Fit it clear and your windows look the same as now. Choose a shade and the same film tints the glass as well. The percentage is how much light gets through, so lower is darker. Most people ask for about 35%
- Safety film, 100 micron: 5-year Apex warranty.
- Safety Plus, 150 micron: extra reinforcement.
- Clear, or tinted at 50%, 35%, 20%, 15% or 5%.
- Tinted film cuts heat and glare, and keeps bags and phones on the seat out of sight.
- Non-reflective, neutral black shade. Rear windscreen tinted to match.
- Apex rates the film at 99% UV blocking.
Paint protection film
PPF is a clear polyurethane film over your paint. Stones, gravel and sand chip the film, not the paint, and a damaged panel gets new film rather than a respray. On a bakkie that sees dirt roads, the front end takes most of it, so that's where we usually start.
- Standard PPF, 150 micron: clear gloss, 5-year Apex warranty.
- Premium PPF, 200 micron: clear gloss, 10-year Apex warranty.
- Premium Matte, 200 micron: turns gloss paint satin.
- Premium Black, 200 micron: gloss black finish.
- Front end, partial or full-body cover.
Nano & ceramic coating
A coating is a liquid layer that bonds to the paint. It won't stop a stone chip the way PPF does, but it makes the paint glossier and easier to wash, and it slows UV fading. Some customers do both: PPF on the front end, a coating over the rest.
- Deeper gloss on the paint.
- Dirt and water rinse off more easily, so washing is quicker.
- Slows fading from the sun.
- Won’t stop stone chips: that’s what PPF is for.
